Ukraine, Georgia sign agreement to supply 110 locomotives

State Railway Transport Administration of Ukraine ("Ukrzaliznytsya") on Oct. 5 signed an agreement with "Elmavalmshenebeli" JSC (Georgia) on delivery of 110 freight electric locomotives VL11M/6, Interfax reported.

"Ukrzaliznytsya" reported that the contract value was $483.13 million

"The agreement was signed within the earlier signed memorandum for delivery of 141 electric locomotives. Under the agreement, the management of "Ukrzaliznytsya" decided to acquire 110 electric locomotives VL11M/6, while the other units of new equipment were contracted for electric locomotives 8E1і," said the press release.

According to the press release, the first 24 electric locomotives will be delivered in 2012 and 60 units will be delivered in 2013-2014, 16 in 2014, 10 in 2016.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers on Aug. 1 approved the State program on renovation of the locomotive park of the Ukrainian railways in 2012-2016, which envisages acquisition of 509 new locomotives.

"Ukrzaliznytsya" in late July signed a memorandum with "Transmashholding" (Russia), as well as its part "Luganskteplovoz" and Lugansk Regional State Administration on delivery of 292 freight electric locomotives 2EL4 of "Luganskteplovoz" in 2012-2016.

In addition, the State Administration signed a memorandum with "Elmavalmshenebeli" JSC on the purchase of 141 freight locomotive VL11M/6 and in 8E1і in 2012-2016.
