Iran's power plants have been provided with some 18 billion liters since the beginning of the current calendar year, which began on March 21, 2011, showing 5.5 billion liters from year to year, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Production and Distribution Company Jalil Salari said.

Jalil Salari told Shana news agency that the country's fuel storage capacity has increased by more than 400 million liters in the current year compared to the previous year.

It is predicted that the average gas consumption will reach 220 million cubic meters per day by next summer.

Despite the implementation of the Subsidy Reform Plan in Iran, the daily gas consumption in household and commercial units have increased by 11 million cubic meters (mcm) since the beginning of the current calendar year (began on March 21, 2011).

Some 156 mcm of gas has been used by household and commercial units in the mentioned period, which is 11 percent more than the amount related to the same period of last year, Mehr news agency reported.

The subsidy reform plan, launched in December 2010, allows the Iranian government to gradually slash subsidies on fuel, electricity, and certain goods over the course of five years, with low-income families being compensated with direct cash handouts.
