Banking sector’s capitalisation in Azerbaijan increased by almost third

In the first half of 2013 Azerbaijani banks continued to augment capital, although there are still banks that do not meet the minimum regulatory capital requirement (10 million manats), a statistical report of Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) said.

During this period the capitalisation of the banking sector of Azerbaijan in comparison to the same period in 2012 increased by 28.52 per cent to 2,857 million manats on July 1.

According to the CBA, the number of banks with capital exceeding 10 million manats reached 41 in the reporting period, while in January-June of last year this number was 40. The specific weight of banks belonging to this category in the total capital of the country's banks amounted to 99.7 per cent by the end of the reporting period.

There were no banks with capital formed within the limits of five million manats to 10 million manats in the examined period, while in June of the last year there were two such banks in the country's banking market.

There were two banks with capital from 3.5 million manats to five million manats in the reporting period.

The specific weight of banks of this category in the total capital of all banks in the country amounted to 0.3 per cent by the end of the reporting period.

There are 43 banks in Azerbaijan.
