Uzbekistan reduced production of cotton fibre by 0.6 per cent (691,824 tons) in January-September 2013 compared to the same period of 2012, a government source told Trend.
Production of cotton yarn increased 22.7 per cent to 128,560 tons and cotton fabrics by 43.5 per cent, up to 57.856 million square metres since early 2013.
It was reported that production of cotton fibre decreased by 0.6 per cent to 1.095 million tons in Uzbekistan in 2012, compared to the same period of 2011.
Uzbekistan ranks sixth in production in the world and third on the export of cotton-fibre. Each year the country produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1.0-1.2 million tons of cotton fibre. Medium-fibre cotton with a fibre length of 32-33mm accounts for 95 per cent of the entire cotton produced in the republic, while long-fibre cotton with a fibre length of 36-39 mm accounts for five per cent. Over 75 per cent of the produced cotton fibre is exported.
