Tehran, Iran, Sept.13
Trend:
Iran has guaranteed purchase of eight million tons of wheat worth $3.1 million from farmers and has paid $2.9 million so far, said the deputy agriculture minister.
"The rest will be paid to farmers next week in cooperation with Target Subsidy Organization," said Yazdan Seyf, Trend reports citing ILNA.
"The private sector has purchased 800,000 tons of wheat from farmers," he said during the opening of the International Grain, Flour and Bakery Industry Exhibition.
In his words, considering the reduction of guaranteed purchase of wheat in current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), it was decided to provide strategic reserves via imports.
"To collect precise statistics and plan the production, the guaranteed purchase of wheat will continue until September 22," he added.
He noted that the drop of guaranteed purchase of wheat due to floods in current and last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018) led to the production cut in the provinces of Khuzestan, Golestan and Ilam.
"The other reason was that the private sector directly purchased wheat from producing provinces. However, the rainfall boosted wheat production in warm regions and compensated the damages from the flood to some extent," he said.
