Georgia offers new objects for privatization

Georgia is offering objects of development natural resources for privatization in addition to other state-owned assets through the “100 investment projects for business” program, said Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

He made the remark at a government meeting on Jan.30, 2020.

According to Gakharia, this will create an opportunity for an additional 120 million lari ($41.4 million) to be invested in the Georgian economy in the coming years.

"The management of natural resources objects is a priority for the Georgian government and the government is implementing important projects in order to manage natural resources efficiently and to be in compliance with environmental standards", the prime minister said.

"The initiative '100 investment projects for business' launched by the Economy Ministry in late November 2019 was successful and more than 38 state-owned assets have already been privatized", he said.

Gakharia noted that state-owned assets which are ineffectively distributed among different state agencies or are not identified at all should be involved in the Georgian economy.

He added that privatization is important to create new jobs, to attract new investments and develop the national economy.
