Iran to stop rail import

Iran is to stop import of rails, as domestic production capacities in this field have increased, said Minister of Road and Urban Development.

"The ministry's plan for current Iranian year [started March 21,2019] was to improve domestic capacities, and we achieved desired success in domestic rail production," said Mohammad Eslami, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"Today, the biggest national railway project is under construction with support of National Development Fund, and the national rail supply agreement has been signed," the minister said referring to Chabahar –Zahedan railway project.

"Boosting industry in Iran would eliminate the need for import, and now we hear tempting offers to import from those who have sanction the goods," Eslami added. "Those who create obstacles during sanction situation should know that when an industry is being supported Iran will soon become independent from import' therefore, there are offers for selling the goods."

"The government has fulfilled its promise to connect five provinces via rail, while access of four other provinces to the rail network is on the agenda," the minister said. "The country has installed 14,000 kilometer rail, while construction of another 14-kilometer railroad section is underway."

"We are following to create consortium with construction companies in rail sector and seek to expand infrastructures to ensure sustainable income for the country," he said.
