Given the travel restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the organization of business forums for promoting companies, economic climate, and cooperation opportunities in both Turkmenistan and Romania was affected, the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Tourism of Romania told Trend.

Also, the ministry said that the 8th Session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission was postponed for 2021.

“We are confident that we will organize the next session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission as soon as the epidemiological situation in both countries allows it,” noted the Romanian side.

Moreover, the ministry said that COVID-19 also affected the trade between Romania and Turkmenistan in October 2020, compared to the same period of 2019.

In terms of overall cooperation of Romania with Turkmenistan, in April 2018, an Agreement was signed between the Romanian Ministry of Business Environment, Trade and Entrepreneurship and the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan on economic cooperation, its need being justified by the common interest to develop bilateral economic cooperation.

In essence, the document expresses the desire of the parties to intensify the exchange of information on topics related to entrepreneurship development, foreign trade policy, macroeconomic policy, investment policy, energy industry, social policy, industry, and agriculture, said the ministry.

The ministry noted that moreover, in the course of execution of decisions which had been resulted at the 7th Session of the Joint Turkmen-Romanian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, held in Ashgabat in 2018, major attention was paid to the issues related to the widening of cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, energy sector, industry, SMEs and business environment, tourism, transport and telecommunication, and agriculture.
