Kazakhstan has since 2008 invested over $37.4 million in modernizing the Batumi oil terminal and port, said Abay Turkpenbaev, head of the companies Baku oil terminal, Batumi Sea Port and Petrotrans limited, in an interview with Trend.
"We have invested more than $37.4 million with the arrival of the National Company KazMunaiGas here in February of 2008," Turkpenbaev said.
He said that in 2010 the company invested almost $10 million in the modernization of the Batumi oil terminal and infrastructure development, while the modernization of the Batumi port has received more than $3.5 million in investments.
"In 2011 we intend to continue a program on modernization of the infrastructure and ecological situation around the port and terminal, so this year we intend to invest nearly $23 million in both of these enterprises," he said.
It should be noted that KazMunaiGas has been the sole owner of the Batumi port and terminal since 2008.
