Ukraine is ready to pump up to 16-20 million tons of Azerbaijani oil via its territory, Minprom reported citing Ukrainian Deputy Energy and Coal Industry Minister Sergei Cech today.
He said the agreement on cooperation in oil transportation between Ukraine and Azerbaijan reflects such marginal volumes.
Cech said the agreement provides for transportation of up to 3 million tons of the Azerbaijani oil through domestic routes to the Galicia oil processing complex (Lviv region) and Neftekhimik Carpathians (Nadvornaya, Ivano-Frankivsk region) ,as well as up to 5 million tons in the western direction (Hungary, Slovakia , Czech Republic) and up to 8-12 million tons to Belarus.
"It is readiness for business, so that our Azerbaijani partners were able to negotiate on commercial deliveries under the agreement, and we will buy part and deliver to own plants, and transit the other part," he said.
He said oil transshipment is planned to pass through the southern sea trade port (Odessa region).
Earlier, a senior official at SOCAR said the country will deliver about 2 million tons of oil to Ukraine in 2011. Another 2 million tons will be delivered in 2012.
The Azerbaijani oil is processed at the Kremenchug refinery, as well as two Western Ukrainian complexes Galicia and Neftekhimik Carpathians. SOCAR also has plans for oil deliveries to Czech Republic and other Eastern European countries.
