The representatives of Russian gas company Gazprom and Tajik Prime Minister Akil Akilov discussed the possibility of providing tax remissions to the company during the negotiations in Dushanbe on Feb. 7, Gazprom affiliated company Zarubezhneftegaz representing Gazprom interests in Tajikistan reported.

Gazprom applied for tax remissions for exploration of hydrocarbons because of high capital intensity and risks of such work in the country.

Moreover, within the negotiations, the parties discussed drilling of the first exploratory Shahrinav-1p well in the license area Sarikamysh, as well as the economic efficiency of exploration in the areas of Rengan and Sargazon.

"In spite of theoretical perceptiveness of these sites, their development is commercially expedient at this stage because of complex geological conditions," the company said.

Tajik Prime Minister Akilov promised to examine carefully all discussed issues and urged the Russian company to speed up drilling work at Shakhrinav-1p well and launch seismic exploration in the area of West Shohambary.

Open Joint Stock Company Gazprom is the largest producer of natural gas in the world and the major Russian company. Its major business lines are geological exploration, production, transportation, storage, processing and marketing of hydrocarbons, as well as generation and marketing of heat and electric power. Russian government has a controlling stake in the company.
