Polish GAZOPROJEKT became a winner of the tender for feasibility study on Slovakia-Poland gas interconnector project, which may enable Poland to access the Southern Gas Corridor, Polish pipeline operator Gaz-System SA said on Tuesday.

GAZOPROJEKT as a contractor of Slovakia-Poland interconnector will cooperate with recognized consultant Ernst & Young and Slovak company - GasTech s.r.o.

The Gas Interconnection Poland - Slovakia project will include the construction of a new cross-border gas pipeline, which will connect the natural gas transmission systems of Poland and Slovakia.

The interconnector, which is part of the planned North-South corridor, may enable Polish entities to access supplies from the Southern Gas Corridor.

The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority energy projects for the EU. It is designed to diversify the routes and sources of supply and thereby increase the energy security of the EU. Gas, which will be produced within the second phase of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas field development, is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects.
