The negotiations between the Ministry of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan and the consultant of Asian Development Bank (ADB) regarding the project of technical assistance for application of alternative energy resources in Azerbaijan were fixed for 2-4 October in Manila. The head of the International Relations Department of the Energy Ministry Rafik Aliyev was empowered for the talks, a government source told Trend. He will hold talks on behalf of Azerbaijani government with Swiss-Indian consultant Entec that is consultant of ADB.
$900 thousand has been allocated to hold researches to define various ways and potential for the development of renewable energy sources, with $200 th. from Finland government in grant, $500 th. ADB and $200 th. - Azerbaijani government. The signing of the grant agreement took place on 26 May 2006.
The project is intended to be realized within 10 months, and up on completion, negotiations will start with the consultant to agree up on technical moments.
ADB plants to present $40 million credit for the realization of the project. A part of credit ($25 mln) will be presented on preferential terms, and $15 mln on common terms.
The primary goal of the project is to provide the regions of the country with alternative energy sources by using windmills, mini-hydraulic and sun electric power. It needs to support the agricultural activities in the regions.
