Estonian Economics and Communications Minister Juhan Parts is distraught by the delay in finalizing an intergovernmental agreement on IT cooperation with Azerbaijan. "I am displeased that we have not been able to finalize the draft agreement," he said at a meeting between the Estonian and Azerbaijani delegations and Azerbaijani IT and Communications Minister Ali Abbasov on Jan. 14. "I hope the matter is resolved soon."
Parts said Estonia hopes to cooperate with Azerbaijan in the IT sector and is ready to share its experiences. The main reason for the delay in finalizing the draft document is ensuring standardization with EU regulations, Abbasov said.
"The initial draft document is ready, but currently being edited by the Estonian side," the minister said.
Abbasov expects an intergovernmental agreement to be signed in the first half of 2009. Azerbaijan has signed 49 international documents, two declarations, 11 intergovernmental agreements, 15 memorandums, 13 protocols and 8 other documents since 2004.
