By Husein Valiyev - Trend:

NaaSAT team of the National Academy of Aviation of Azerbaijan received an invitation to a regular international contest CanSat (Student Satellite), Akbar Aliyev, the Academy teacher, design engineer told Trend.

The contest will take place on June 08-10, 2018 in Tarleton State University located in Stephenville (Texas, US).

NaaSAT team first participated in this contest in 2016, ranking 31-st among 40 participating teams. In 2017 the team ranked 13th.

According to Aliyev, unlike the last year's contest, the technical selection criteria have been amended this year.

"Previously held two contests saw launch of a missile, a container detaching from the missile, and a glider smoothly descending from it and further monitoring; this time, a missile is expected to put a micro-satellite onto specific altitude. The satellite then should be parachuting with simultaneous monitoring," Aliyev explained.

"The conditions require that the micro-satellite descend at a specific speed to 400 m and only after that change the speed. This year the participants are expected to meet requirements for smooth descending. To test it, an egg will be placed inside a micro-satellite, and it should land smoothly, not to break the egg," he said.

When descending, a micro-satellite will measure flight altitude, wind speed, air parameters (temperature, pressure, and composition), air-photograph directed by signals from the earth. Collected flight and atmospheric data will be sent to an earth-based station with the software developed by a team.
