The situation may destabilize in Central Asia after US troops are withdrawn from Afghanistan, head of the anti-terror center of the CIS member-states, Police Colonel General Andrei Novikov said during a video conference with a video connection to RIA Novosti sites in Astana, Kiev, Chisinau and Yerevan on Monday.
"In fact, the situation in Afghanistan now, in 2014 and later, is a kind of trigger for possible destabilization of all of Central Asia," he said. "This causes concern and makes us take special measures, collectively and at the national level of the CIS countries."
He added that the agenda of the world community includes the most important issue - security in the 21st century.
"According to the analytical and forecasting centers, the country with the highest rating of terrorist activity is Afghanistan," he said. "Recent events have forced us to pay much attention to the significant changes in the quality of local operations and terrorist activity. The withdrawal of NATO troops from Afghanistan in 2014 creates a new situation in Central Asia and the regional countries have a very long border with this country. Therefore, a question about a transfer of responsibility of the U.S. and NATO coalition to the regional entities remains open."
