ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 14. In the Almaty region of Kazakhstan, construction of a railway line has begun, bypassing the Almaty station, Trend reports.
Rail freight transportation between Kazakhstan and China in 2022 exceeded the historical maximum, amounting to over 23 million tons. Since the beginning of 2023, the figure has increased by another 22 percent.
Under these conditions, the Almaty railway junction, located at the crossroads of the main international routes, is experiencing increased load.
The implementation of the project will make it possible to redirect freight traffic to the new Zhetygen – Kazybek bek railway, bypassing the Almaty station. In general, the new line will reduce the load on the Almaty junction by 40 percent and significantly reduce the time of cargo delivery.
The share of local content within the construction work will be at least 85 percent. 1,400 people will be involved in construction, and about 500 people will be involved in operating the railway line.
The production of sleepers, rails and transformers, the supply of inert materials, sand and crushed stone will be carried out by local companies.
In total, during the construction process, 130 km of railway tracks will be laid, 3 stations, 13 bridges, 5 railways and 1 road overpass will be built.
To ensure uninterrupted export of domestic products and expand the transit of goods in Kazakhstan, active work continues on the development of railway infrastructure.
Thus, to increase capacity, second tracks are being built on the Dostyk – Moyynty section.
In the near future, it is planned to begin construction of the Darbaza-Maktaaral and Bakhty-Ayagoz railway lines with access to the third international junction with China.
In total, over 1,300 km of railways will be built within three years.
