ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 9. Over 122 million tons of cargo were transported through the Kazakhstan Railways' (KTZ, national company) network from January through June 2024, Trend reports.
According to KTZ, intra-republican transportation increased by 2.1 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to more than 81.5 million tons. Over 41 million tons were sent for export.
At the same time, 47.5 million tons of coal were transported, including 34.8 million tons throughout the country. The volume of grain transportation within the country increased by 5 percent, to 1.1 million tons.
In addition, based on the results of six months of this year, transportation of grinding products increased by 5.4 percent, to 1.6 million tons, including within the country by 8 percent.
In the first half of 2024, transportation of ferrous metals increased by 7.2 percent, to 2.2 million tons, iron ore and manganese by 9.6 percent, to 10.5 million tons, non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials by 13 percent, to 12.1 million tons.
Moreover, exports of oil cargo increased by 8.3 percent (2.7 million tons), ferrous metals by 6 percent (up to 1.6 million tons), chemical fertilizers by 10 percent (648,000 tons), and construction cargo by 68 percent (267,000 tons).
Meanwhile, the volume of cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 416.4 million tons from January through December 2023. This is 2.8 percent more than from January through December 2022.
At the same time, cargo turnover by rail for the above period amounted to 326.8 billion ton-kilometers, which is 4.8 percent more than in the same period in 2022.
