BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 30. Electricity production in Kyrgyzstan from January through September 2023 increased, compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports.
Data from the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan shows that the country generated 10.384 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity during these 9 months in 2023, which is a rise by 9 percent compared to the same months in 2022 (8.985 billion kilowatt-hours).
Electricity production increased by 10.8 percent in September on an annual basis. In September 2023, Kyrgyzstan produced 601.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, whereas in the same month of the previous year, the figure was 542.7 million kilowatt-hours.
For comparison, electricity production decreased by 12.1 percent year-on-year (YoY) from January through September 2022, and decreased by 6.2 percent YoY in September 2022.
In September of the current year, the Minister of Energy, Taalaybek Ibraev, announced that Kyrgyzstan is expected to face an electricity deficit of 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours this year.
During autumn and winter, Kyrgyzstan aims to generate 14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from hydroelectric power stations. Additionally, an extra 1.9 billion kilowatt-hours will be generated at the Bishkek thermal power plant.
