Iran has exported about $12 billion in petrochemical products, a figure that could surpass $14 billion in the coming weeks, Shana news agency reports.

Starting two years ago, Iran's petrochemical producers sought to expand their customer base, the head of the National Petrochemical Company, Ali-Mohammad Bassaghzadeh, said. Sanctions against Iran's oil industry haven't affected the country's petrochemical producers. The sales continue normally, he added.

The exports to European countries continue while Iran has added Latin American and Asian countries to its customers.

Iran is the Middle East's second biggest petrochemical producer, after Saudi Arabia.
