BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 3. Iran's potential to produce electricity will soon exceed 100,000 megawatts, the country's Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi said at an event organized on the occasion of the commissioning of a water supply facility in the Tuyserkan city of Hamadan Province, Trend reports.
According to him, Iran's current power generation potential is more than 94,000 megawatts.
Aliabadi stated that the current Iranian government is seriously dealing with the country's power shortage. Energy consumption in Iran is several times higher than other countries in the world. Energy consumption in Iran is not properly managed. To this end, the focus is on energy consumption management as a major solution.
The Iranian minister added that the country's energy consumption situation will be substantially better next summer and the shortage of electricity will be eliminated.
“As many as 14 major power generation projects are slated to take steps in the country. Thus, more than 5,000 megawatts of electricity will be supplemented to the country's production,” he noted.
The event was organized today regarding water supply to the city of Tuyserkan in Hamadan Province of Iran and 160 villages of the province. The event was attended by the Iranian Energy Minister and other officials.
To note, Iran's electricity production potential previously stood at 93,455 megawatts. The production potential of Iran's thermal power plants is 76,257 megawatts, the production potential of hydroelectric power plants is 12,144 megawatts, the production potential of retail power plants is 2,485 megawatts, the production potential of renewable power plants is 1,450 megawatts, the production potential of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is 1,020 megawatts, and the production potential of diesel units is 408 megawatts.
