By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:

Iran is going to publish a new mesoscale wind map of the country in about two months, according to Dr. Mohammad Satkin, chairman of Iran Energy Agency and manager of the Wind and Wave Energy Department of the Renewable Energy Organization.

“The map is under development. The current version is based on 2-year data. In one month we will have a new version based on 5-year data. And in two months, we will have the version that is based on 10-year data, which is the most accurate basis for such maps,” he told Renpower 2016 conference in Tehran, Trend correspondent reported November 7.

This package will be offered free of charge to help investors find their suitable locations for creating wind farms, he said.

The conference was held in anticipation of incoming investors willing to carry out projects in the renewable energy sector after Iran has been freed from sanctions.

Currently, new energy comprises a tiny share of 0.01 percent in the oil-and-gas-rich country’s energy basket.

Under preparation in cooperation with the Danish Technical University, the map will be prepared in 80, 100, 120, and even up to 200-meter versions, Satkin said.

He added that Iran is going to start a more accurate microscale mapping of winds in the country in one year.

“This map will come with a resolution finer than 300 meters, which will give investors even the chance to decide the place of their turbines,” he said.
