The President of Georgia opened today in Batumi an alley named after Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan. Mikheil Saakashvili said at the opening ceremony that the Sheikh, who is also UAE Minister of Education, is a true philanthropist, since he donated tens of thousands of palm trees to Batumi.
"Moreover, he sent a man who, after this hard winter replaced all the frozen palms with new ones and spent $ 100,000. He did not ask anything in return, and that little thing we could do to celebrate his philanthropy is to name an alley of palms after him," the president said.
Saakashvili said that Batumi City Hall took an initiative of opening alley named after Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, and the local City Council approved this decision.
The Sheikh, who is in Batumi, said that he believes in the future of Batumi and welcomes the efforts of President Saakashvili. "All efforts of Saakashvili will lead to Batumi becoming a prominent resort center," he said, adding that he was surprised by the construction, which is in Batumi.
The President of Georgia congratulated the people of Adjara with the revolution that took place in 2004 and which forced Aslan Abashidze to flee the country. "Adjara then returned to the constitutional space of Georgia", he said.
