Syrian President al-Assad hopes Iraqi Elections to be main stage in unifying Iraqis, SANA news agency reported.

Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad hoped on Saturday that the recent parliamentary elections in Iraq will be a main stage in unifying the Iraqis and bringing safety and stability back to Iraq.

This came during a meeting with Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdel Mahdi who stressed Iraq's desire to develop these relations and opening new prospects of cooperation between Iraq and neighboring countries.

Talks during the meeting dealt with developments in Iraq particularly after the parliamentary elections as well as Syrian-Iraqi brotherly relations.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Vice President Mohammad Nassif, the accompanying delegation to Abdel Mahdi and the Chargé d'affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus.

President al-Assad received last March a verbal message form the Iraqi government on bilateral relations between the two brotherly counties, stressing Iraqis keenness to develop these relations in all fields. The message was conveyed by Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashimi.

President al-Assad also discussed on March 4th with Chief of Iraqi National Movement Iyad Allawi the latest developments in Iraq.
