The convicted assassin of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin will be moved out of solitary confinement for the first time since his arrest 17 years ago, Maan reported
Yigal Amir is serving a life sentence for the 1995 assassination at a peace rally, and was kept in isolation due to his failure to show regret, and danger to his life from other prisoners, Israeli newspaper Haaretz said.
Amir said he shot the politician to stop him from handing parts of what he believed were the biblical land of Israel to the Palestinians in peace negotiations.
Israel's Supreme Court rejected Amir's petition to be moved from isolation in 2010, citing the danger of him spreading his ideology to other prisoners.
Haaretz said that in May the court recommended he enter the general prison population, and he will now be able to meet with other prisoners for two hours a day.
