Britney Spears Expands Mommy Role

(starmagazine.com ) - Britney Spears has her dad to thank. Jamie Spears' role as conservator has paid off. The pop princess was granted "expanded" visitation rights of her children, Preston, 2, and Jayden, 20 months, at today's court custody hearing in Los Angeles.

The two parties - Britney's team and her ex-husband Kevin Federline's team - were expected to break for lunch, but instead they amicably reached an agreement over custody.

"I'm happy with the results," K-Fed's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan told Star after the decision was reached.

At a press conference held outside of the courthouse, Kaplan said, "The court recognized signs of progress... Since the conservatorship has taken place, a lot of uncertainty is out of play."

When asked how the kids are, Kaplan replied, "This is the most important question. The kids are great. Thank you."

Although Kaplan did not go into the details of the terms of the expanded custody, he did say: "Kevin's goal has always been that his two sons would have both a mother and father participating actively in their lives."

When Britney left the courtroom, she was in a good mood. "She was holding hands with her mom and she was laughing and chewing on a small red straw," an eye witness tells Star.

Neither Britney nor her lawyer talked to the press after the hearing. The next court hearing will be a progress report set for July 15.
