Afghan President Hamid Karzai called Thursday for the international efforts against the Taliban to target the terrorist bases outside his country, DPA reported.

His comments came after the online whistle-blower WikiLeaks released 92,000 classified documents at the weekend, providing new details on the Afghan war from 2004 to 2009, including on Pakistan's support for the Taliban.

"The war against terrorism is not in the villages or houses of Afghanistan," Karzai said, "but in the sanctuaries, sources of funding and training, and they lie outside Afghanistan."

The West has the capacity to strike these bases, unlike Afghanistan, the president said, adding: "The question now is why they are not taking action?"

The war against international terrorism could not progress without eliminating the terrorists' safe havens and support, Karzai's security advisor Rangin Dadfar Spanta said Tuesday.

The president also said he had ordered his foreign ministry and security advisors to reviews the leaked documents, in particular those that address Pakistan's involvement and civilian casualties.
