Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was in Ukraine on Tuesday for talks on energy and economic cooperation with his counterpart Viktor Yanukovych, dpa reported.
The day of meetings took place at an exposition centre in Donestk, an industrial city in east Ukraine, near Yanukovych's home town.
Yanukovych prior to the talks said he would push for Russia to reduce the price of natural gas sold to his country. Russian officials have said they believe the price is fair.
Russian media on Tuesday was predicting no agreement on gas pricing.
The two presidents were also to discuss Ukraine's possible participation with a free trade group including Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, and Russian aerospace industry cooperation on Ukraine's An-70 military cargo plane and Dnipro space rocket, said Sergei Prikhodko, a Medvedev spokesman.
Yanukovych has repeatedly said his government supports eventual Ukrainian accession into the European Union, however, since his coming to power in 2010, relations between Kiev and the Kremlin have become increasingly close.
