At least 18 people were killed and eight others injured when unknown gunmen opened fired on a passenger bus in Pakistan's northern district of Kohistan on Tuesday morning, said local media.
Local Urdu TV channel DAWN quoted local residents as saying that the firing incident took place early on Tuesday morning when a passenger bus heading from Rawalpindi, a sister city of the country's capital Islamabad, to Gilgit, capital city of Gilgit- Baltistan province in northern Pakistan, was attacked by unknown gunmen.
The attack occurred on the Karakoram Highway in the Harban area of Kohistan, said the report.
There were at least 26 people on board when the bus was attacked, it said, adding that all the injured people have been shifted to hospitals in Kohistan and Gilgit, Xinhua reported.
Details about the attackers are not known at this point.
