Iran and Belarus are enhancing agricultural cooperation following the joint commission meeting in Minsk, the head of the agriculture commission in Iran Chamber of Commerce told Trend in an interview.
Belarus has a special political affiliation with Russia and can have extended cooperation with Iran, Ali Shariati noted.
Iran has used the opportunity and the Iranian ambassador had important negotiations in this regard to form commercial communication, he indicated.
Belarus economy is mostly public based and the country does not have a high rate of attraction of foreign investors although the country could have more collaboration with Iran due to its climate and agriculture sector, the official explained.
Iran is planning overseas cultivation in Belarus and improving financial and political infrastructures requires investment.
Iran seeks to produce wheat, barley, and grain since these products are compatible with a low temperature in Belarus, and on the other side Iran can export tropical fruits such as apple, grape, and tomato, he pointed.
Iran and Belarus have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for expanding cooperation in the agricultural sector, following the three-day visit of the Iranian Deputy Agriculture Minister Abbas Askarzadeh to Minsk.
Trade and commercial relations between the two countries in the fields of agricultural products, horticulture, fisheries, and aquaculture will be expanded.
