Iran's oil production increased by 4.5 percent, or 184,000 barrels per day (b/d), to 3.92 mb/d in 2015 year-to-year, BP's published Statistical Review of World Energy on June 9 said.
The figure includes crude oil, shale oil, oil sands and NGLs (natural gas liquids - the liquid content of natural gas where this is recovered separately) and excludes liquid fuels from other sources such as biomass and derivatives of coal and natural gas.
Iran's share in global oil production stood at 4.2 percent.
Iran refined 1.847 mb/d of oil during last year, which indicates a 3.8 percent decrease, compared to 2014.
The country's nominal oil refinery capacity is 1.985 mb/d. Therefore, about 138,000 b/d of Iran refinery capacity remained idle.
Iran was producing 4.466 mb/d of oil during the pre-sanctions era in 2011. The sanctions on Iran were lifted in mid-January, 2016.
Iran says it has almost reached the oil production level to the pre-sanctions level.
