Petroleum and petroleum oils top Georgian imports

Copper ores and concentrates reclaimed first place in the list of top export items in January 2021 in Georgia, equaling $49.7 million or 22.1 percent of total exports, Trend reports via the National Statistics Office reports (Geostat).

The exports of motor cars totaled $24.9 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 11.1 percent. The ferroalloys exports occupied the third-place standing at $23.3 million and constituting 10.4 percent of the total exports.

The top import commodities in January 2021 were petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons whose imports equaled $46.3 million (8.6 percent of the total imports).

The moving, grading, extracting, or boring machinery, for the earth, minerals or ores followed in the list with $40.8 million or 7.6 percent of imports.

The petroleum and petroleum oils were third in the top import commodity list with $36.6 million (6.8 percent of imports).

The external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to $762.5 million in January 2021, 16.5 percent lower than the same month of 2020. The exports equaled $224.4 million (16.2 percent lower), while the imports stood at $538.1 million (16.6 percent lower). The negative trade balance was $313.6 million in January 2021 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 41.1 percent.
