BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 11. The electricity generation of Iran’s thermal power plants increased by 3 percent in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
According to the data from Energy Ministry of Iran, approximately 200 million megawatts of electricity were generated by the country's thermal power plants in 6 months.
The launch of 8 steam units in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), played an important role in the increase in electricity production.
During 6 months, Iran's thermal power plants provided 93 percent of the electricity needed by the country's electricity network.
About 53 percent of the produced electricity accounted for combined cycle units.
Thus, the combined cycle units generated a total of 105 million megawatts of electricity within the specified period, which is 5 percent more than the same period last year. Meanwhile, the electricity generations of gas units of Iran's TPPs stood at 48 million megawatts, and steam units was 45 million megawatts in 6 months.
There are currently 616 power units operating in 134 TPPs in Iran. The power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants is 74,198 megawatt-hours.
At present, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent are accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
