Tbilisi International Airport served 19,415 passengers in October 2020, a decrease of 93 percent compared to October 2019 (284,442 passengers), Trend reports via Georgian media.
Batumi International Airport served 131 passengers in October 2020 and 47,536 passengers in October last year, which is 99.7 percent less.
In October 2020, Kutaisi International Airport served 1,209 passengers, in October last year, 90,134 passengers, respectively, the decrease in passenger traffic was 98.6 percent.
According to the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the 82.49-percent decrease in passenger traffic at Georgian airports is due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions imposed on air traffic in the world and in Georgia.
“As part of measures to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19 in Georgia, direct flights with China have been suspended from January 29, 2020. From February 23, 2020, air transportation of passengers from Iran to Georgia has been suspended. Direct flights Italy have been suspended from March 6, 2020. And since March 21, 2020, regular flights from Georgia and to Georgia have been completely stopped. The restrictions did not apply to cargo, charter, repatriation, humanitarian, technical and air flights,” the agency explained.
