BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, May 31. Implementing major hydroelectric projects in Kyrgyzstan requires approximately $10.628 billion, Trend reports.
Based on the country's National Energy Program, the funding required for each project is as follows: Kambarata-1 HPP: $4.5 billion; Suusamyr-Kokomerenskiy HPP cascade: $3.3 billion; Kazarman HPP cascade: $2.1 billion; and Upper Naryn HPP cascade: around $0.728 billion.
To note, this national project has been submitted for consideration to the Kyrgyz Parliament.
The Kambarata-1 HPP on the Naryn River is the largest hydroelectric project in Kyrgyzstan. This HPP, which is expected to become one of Central Asia's largest hydropower ventures, will have a capacity of 1860 MW and will produce 5.6 billion kWh of electricity per year. Preliminary estimates indicate that the dam will be 256 meters high and that the reservoir will hold more than 5.4 billion cubic meters of water.
According to Akylbek Japarov, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyzstan currently utilizes only 13 percent of its hydroelectric potential.
