BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 2. Turkmenistan and Germany cooperate within the framework of regional projects, a source in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany told Trend.

It was noted that Turkmenistan is not among Germany's partner countries in bilateral development cooperation.

"Governmental development cooperation does, however, take place to a limited extent through regional projects for Central Asia, focusing particularly on spheres in which challenges can be tackled more successfully at the regional and cross-border level, such as climate and environmental protection, management of natural resources, disaster risk reduction, and facilitation of regional and international trade," said the source.

At the same time, the ministry noted that a new regional project 'Renewable Energies in Central Asia' with the participation of Turkmenistan will be launched this year.

"Its objective is to share information and build capacities to facilitate the integration of renewable energies into the regional power grids (adapting the legislative and administrative framework, promotion of adequate framework conditions for public and private investments in renewable energies, strengthening of relevant research structures, and public information campaigns)," said the source.

Meanwhile, Germany actively supports initiatives to strengthen economic ties with the Central Asian states through financing projects on infrastructure modernization, trade, investment, energy, transport, and ecology.

The total amount of trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Germany for the whole of 2023 amounted to 203.16 million euros, which is 15.8 percent less than in 2022, which amounted to 241.32 million euros.
