Latvian delegation discuses cooperation at Uzbek ministry

A meeting with a Latvian delegation consisting of Defense Minister Artis Pabriks and Transport Minister Aivis Ronis has been held at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry today, the Foreign Ministry's press service said.

Latvian Ambassador Igors Apokins attended the meeting.

According to the press service, the sides discussed Uzbek-Latvian cooperation in various fields.

The positive dynamics of bilateral trade was stressed. It increased by 44 percent to $192.5 million in 2011. Regular freight transportation began from Riga via the Navoi transcontinental intermodal hub in late 2011. This opened prospects for contacts between business circles, as well as logistical structures.

International and regional issues of mutual interest were discussed.

Pabriks has already met with his Uzbek counterpart Kabul Berdiyev.
They discussed the situation in Afghanistan and its impact on security in Central Asia.

Talks are also planned with other top officials during the defense minister's five-day tour to Uzbekistan.
