Uzbekistan shares volume of beverages, tobacco imports

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 14. Uzbekistan imported beverages and tobacco worth $94.5 million from January through May 2024, Trend reports.

According to the data from Uzbekistan's Statistics Agency, this indicator has shot through the roof with a whopping 39.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year (a cool $67.6 million in January–May 2023).

The beverages amount to $64.6 million from January through May 2024, which is less than 41 percent year-on-year ($45.8 million in January–May 2023).

At the same time, the volume of tobacco exports reached $29.9 million during this period. This figure is 37.7 percent more than the same period of the previous year ($21.7 million in January–May 2023).

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's volume of imports amounted to $15.8 billion from January through May 2024. This figure has increased by 3.2 percent compared to the same period in 2023 ($15.3 billion in January–May 2023).

In the grand scheme of imports, machinery and transportation equipment take the lion's share with a whopping 37.3 percent, while industrial goods make up a respectable 15.2 percent, and chemicals and similar products trail behind at 12.3 percent.
