ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 18. Kazakhstan Railways (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, KTZ) delivered 36.8 million tons of coal, including over 32.5 million tons for the country's combined heat and power plants (CHPs) from May through November 2024, in preparation for the 2024-2025 heating season, Trend reports.
More than 4.3 million tons were sent to the residential and communal sectors. Approximately 20,000 wagons were involved in coal transportation. All CHPs across the country have accumulated coal reserves exceeding regulatory requirements - over 5.5 million tons, which is 4 percent more than last year. There are 600,000 tons of coal at coal terminals.
It was also noted that a round-the-clock operations center has been set up at KTZ to coordinate coal deliveries. Daily meetings are held with representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan. KTZ fulfills all shipper orders 100 percent, with coal volumes being shipped and empty hopper car reserves available for loading coal for three to four days.
Last month, more than 29 million tons of coal were delivered. A month ago, the reserves of coal at the country's CHPs exceeded the regulatory standards, reaching more than 5.4 million tons.
