BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 20. The transportation sector in Azerbaijan has experienced a remarkable uptick, with cargo transport soaring by 4.1 percent and passenger transport witnessing an impressive 9.2 percent growth from January to October this year, in comparison to the corresponding timeframe of 2023.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's State Statistics Committee indicate that relevant business entities transported 193.8 million tons of cargo.
A comprehensive analysis reveals that 59.3 percent of cargo was efficiently transported via roadways, while 28.8 percent leveraged the robust pipeline network. Additionally, eight percent utilized rail systems, 3.7 percent engaged maritime routes, and a mere 0.2 percent opted for aerial transport solutions.
The volume of cargo transported by vehicles belonging to the non-state sector increased by 5.8 percent; the share of this sector in the total volume of transported cargo amounted to 78.9 percent. From January through October 2024, carriers served 1.69 million passengers.
In a detailed analysis, a staggering 88.2 percent of passengers leveraged road transportation, while 11.1 percent opted for metro solutions, with the remaining percentage utilizing alternative transport modalities.
