BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 22. Georgia is determined to reinforce its strategic role in the Middle Corridor, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili said during her remarks at the 5th Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, Trend reports.
"We want to make sure that we emphasize and strengthen Georgia's role within the Middle Corridor," the minister said, highlighting the country’s commitment to closer alignment with its regional partners. "Our first commitment is to make sure that we have very clear alignments with our partner countries, whether it be Azerbaijan or Kazakhstan. We have joined forces to identify the existing bottlenecks and to determine how we can overcome them".
Speaking about Georgia’s contribution, the minister emphasized the importance of several major infrastructure projects aimed at boosting the country’s transit capacity. "We have significant, extremely important, massive infrastructural projects going on, which contribute significantly to the Middle Corridor," she said.
Among these, Kvrivishvili singled out the modernization of the Georgian Railway as one of the country’s top priorities. "We’ve already invested heavily in modernizing the Georgian Railway. With this, we’ve managed to double its capacity, but this is an ongoing process," she explained.
According to the minister, the government will continue to invest in expanding the railway’s infrastructure and improving access to finance. "This will allow us to carry more cargo and strengthen Georgia’s position as a key transit hub - a country that connects East to West," she concluded.
