Russian President’s Visit Expected to Astana in May

Kazakhstan, Astana, 12 May / Trend corr. K.Konirova / Erjan Ashikbayev, official representative of the Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry, reported in Astana in a briefing that the newly elected President of Russia, Dmitri Medvedev, would pay a visit to Astana from 22 to 23 May.

"Medvedev's first abroad visit to Kazakhstan demonstrates high strategic partnership between the countries," Ashikbayov stated.

The wide bilateral cooperation issues are expected to be discussed within the framework of the visit.

According to the Ministry, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Russia made up $16.3bln as for 2007, more by 27% compared to 2006. During the first quarter of 2008, the trade turnover comprised $4.13bln, more by 26% compared to the mentioned period in 2007.
