The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has completed the drilling of two wells at the Kalmaz underground gas storage facility, SOCAR reported today.
Both wells were drilled in the second reservoir horizon. The first well's depth is 1,770 meters and the second well's depth is 1,840 meters. The wells were drilled to expand and modernize the Kalmaz storage facilities in accordance with the SOCAR Gas Program. Modernization activities are currently underway.
The facility's exploitation fund has 109 wells; 99 are operational.
Azerbaijan has two underground gas storage facilities -- Garadagh and Kalmaz
Last year, SOCAR pumped 2 billion cubic meters of gas into the underground storage facilities compared to 1.4 billion in 2008.
