BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 26. A number of villages and towns named after the country's first president Saparmurat Niyazov (Turkmenbashi) and his mother Gurbansoltan Eje were renamed in Turkmenistan, Trend reports citing the Turkmenistan Golden Age online newspaper.
This was announced at a meeting of the upper house of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, which was held by the chairman of this chamber Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
In particular, in the Dashoguz region, the village named after Saparmurat Niyazov of the Gerogly district will be called Bedirkent, the village named after Saparmurat Niyazov of the amalgamation of settlements of Gallachi – Gallachi village, the Saparmurat Niyazov district and its city Niyazov – Shavat.
The city named after Gurbansoltan Eje of the same name district was given the name Andalyp, and the district itself was abolished. The village named after Gurbansoltan Eje of the amalgamation of settlements of the villages of the Sahara will be called Yeketut. The amalgamation of settlements, named after the mother of the first President of Turkmenistan, was renamed Gyzyldzhagala.
In total, according to the results of the meeting, it was proposed to rename more than 30 villages and cities and exclude 6 districts, 5 cities with the status of a district, one urban district, two settlements, 36 associations of settlements and 36 villages from the list of administrative-territorial units.
