Uzbek Ministry of Energy plans to build new HPPs by 2026

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan plans to build 15 new hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) and modernize 5 existing ones by 2026, Trend reports via the ministry’s statement.

This will bring an additional 868 MW of generating capacity annually.

Thus, according to the Development Strategy of Uzbekistan for 2022-2026, the total capacity of hydroelectric power plants will reach 2,920 MW.

In 2022, 7 additional HPPs with a total capacity of 173 MW will be built in the Samarkand, Surkhandarya and Tashkent regions of the country.

It is also planned to modernize and put into operation 5 more operating HPPs:

- in 2023, the modernization of 1 HPP in the Tashkent region and 2 HPPs in the Kashkadarya and Andijan regions with a total capacity of 29 MW will be completed;

- in 2024, the modernization of 4 HPPs in Andijan, Namangan, Surkhandarya and Tashkent regions with a total capacity of 122 MW will be completed;

- in 2025-2026, 4 HPPs with a total capacity of 544 MW will be put into operation in Kashkadarya and Tashkent regions.
