Iran's transit rate to double

The volume of Iran's transit will double the current solar year (started on March 20, 2011), Mehr News Agency quoted Deputy Minister of Road and Transport Reza Pilpayeh as saying.

"The Road and Transport ministry insists on increasing transit revenues the current solar year," he added.

We plan to use maximum sources of budget and intend to attract $18 billion investment from the National Development Fund, issuing bonds, domestic and foreign finance and privatization.

According to the Road and Transport Ministry, about 10 million tons of goods were transited from Iranian borders last solar year and this figure indicates a 34 percent growth compared to the previous solar year.

About 86 percent of goods were transited by vehicles, while 14 percent by trains.

More than 100 countries choose Iran as the transit destination. It is stipulated by safe routes and low fuel costs.
