Around 8,000 tons of imported basic goods are being discharged daily at Iran's Imam Khomeini port, while the record has reached 31,000 tons at some points, said head of Khuseztan Ports and Maritime Organization.
"The volume of ships unloaded in first two months of current Iranian year (started on March21, 2019) has increased by more than 85 percent comparing to last year, and the cargo tonnage has also increased by 90 percent," Adel Daris said, Trend reports citing ILNA.
In his words, despite the current situation in the country, the volume of unloaded basic goods has not reduced; in contrast, it has increased comparing to the statistics of last Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018).
"During past two months, 63 ships unloaded basic goods, whereas during the same period of the last year, 34 ships delivered goods to the country," he added. "In 2019, three million tons of basic goods have been unloaded, while the figure in last year was 1.6 million tons."
He said, "At the moment, 103,000 tons of sugar and 180,000 tons of vegetable oil has been stored Imam Khomeini port."
The official noted that negotiations on increase of the Imam Khomeini port area by adding 5,000 hectare are underway.
