The Austrian resort of Schladming will host the 2013 alpine ski world championships after a vote by delegates Thursday at the annual congress of the world ski federation FIS in Cape Town, dpa reported.
Val di Fiemme in Italy was selected to host the 2013 Nordic ski world championships.
The vote for Schladming means the world ski championships goes to an Austrian resort for a ninth time.
Schladming, which hosted the event in 1982, was chosen ahead of a twin bid by Vail and Beaver Creek in the United States, Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy, and St Moritz, Switzerland.
Next February, the world championships will be held in Val d'Isere, France, followed by Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany in 2011.
Val di Fiemme beat off challenges by Falun in Sweden, regarded as the favourite, and Oberstdorf in Germany for the Nordic ski worlds. It will be the third time the Italian venue has hosted the worlds after 1991 and 2004.
The 2012 ski flying world championships go to Vikersund in Norway which beat a bid by Harrachov in the Czech republic.
