BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 22. Azerbaijan's economically active population numbers 5.25 million people, according to preliminary data as of March 1, 2024, Trend reports via the country's State Statistics Committee.
This figure includes 4.9 million employed people.
The total number of hired workers as of February 1 this year amounted to over 1.72 million people, including 901,700 in the public sector of the economy and 823,400 in the private sector.
The oil and gas sector of the economy employed 31,400 people, while the non-oil and gas sector employed 1.69 million people.
A total of 22.5 percent of hired workers in enterprises and organizations are employed in the production sector, including 7.3 percent in manufacturing, 6.3 percent in construction, 3.3 percent in agriculture, forestry, and fishing, two percent in water supply, sanitation, and waste management, and 1.9 percent in mining.
Of the employed population, 19.2 percent work in the education sector, 18.6 percent in the trade and motor vehicle repair sectors, 8.5 percent - sector of healthcare and social services, 6.5 percent - public administration and defense, and social security sector, five percent - administrative and support services, 4.2 percent - transportation and warehousing, 3.7 percent - professional, scientific, and technical activities, 3.1 percent - leisure, entertainment, and arts, 2.5 percent - accommodation and food service activities, 2.2 percent - financial and insurance activities, 1.9 percent - information and communication, 1.1 percent - real estate operations, and one percent - other service sectors.
