The 16th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement will be held in Tehran in 2012, Iran's Fars news agency reported.
"Iran and Qatar was willing to host 16th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement. Qatar agreed to hold the summit in Iran after discussions between officials of the two countries," Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told reporters after the Non-Aligned Movement Foreign Ministers' meeting in Cuba.
Mottaki said participants of the Cuba meeting approved Iran's hosting NAM summit. "This is very important to Iran's activities worldwide," Mottaki said.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an international organization of 118 states considering themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.
The establishment of the organization was initiated in Bandog conference in 1955. The Non-Aligned Movement was founded in conference in Yugoslavia under the leadership of Cuban President Fidel Castro and Yugoslav president Joseph Broz Tito.
The Non-Aligned Movement has held 14 summits so far. The fifth summit will be held in Egypt from July 11 to 16 in 2009. The movement includes 53 states from Africa, 26 from Latin America, 38 from Asia and 1 from Europe.
